There are hundreds of different articles written on alcoholism as it is a very large problem in the United
States as around the world. The use and the beginning of alcohol use and abuse can be followed as far back as
ancient times, probably starting in Egypt. There are artifacts that seem to have carried alcohol can be found as
old as the Neolithic period (cir.10, 000BC.) some claim beer as a staple came before the making of bread. Osiris
was the god of wine then and was worshiped within the entire country. The Egyptians thought Osiris made wine as
well as beer.
Articles on alcoholism claim that back in the ancient times it was used in rituals, parties and sacred
ceremonies. Articles on alcoholism state that both beer and wine were blessed and was offered to the gods. Some
have even found hieroglyphs that depicted a winepress. The Egyptians used alcohol for many purposes such as
medicinal purposes, rituals, nutrition and funeral purposes. They would store some sort of alcoholic beverages in
the tombs to drink in the after life.
Other articles on alcoholism refer to the Chinese people using it as far back as prehistoric times. They thought
alcohol was a spiritual food instead of regular solid foods. There are many articles that attest to the role that
it played in their religious life. They would hold a jug of alcohol for pledging a promise of victory when going
into battle, or offering sacrifices to the gods or dead ancestors.
When prohibition hit the Untied States, (1920-1933) articles on alcoholism took on a somewhat different
approach. They claimed that alcoholism was not a problem and you could buy the booze on the black market. The
eighteenth amendment prevents the sale, manufacturing and or transportation of any kind of alcohol.
In nineteen thirty three when prohibition was abolished, marked a turning point in the Untied States. Many
argued that alcohol was poisoning the body and other articles on alcohol read that anyone could and should drink if
they wanted to. Then another article on alcoholism states it should be a socially acceptable drug. Many argue that
point, but will agree that it was a problem and still is.
Articles on alcoholism will give statistics on binge drinking as well; that more than five drinks a day one is
considered an alcoholic. Or if they hide their drinking, some even put it in their coffee, using vodka as there is
no odor. Some will state whether alcohol is a drug. Yes, it is and can and usually affects every organ in the body.
Mainly it hits the liver; this can lead and often does lead to extremely serious threats to the lives of the
alcoholic and the lives that they touch.
Some claim in their articles on alcoholism that drinking, binge drinking etc.; is passed down from parents to
the children. Yes it is as it has been proven by many different testing and taking people who have alcoholic
parents.
